Changing Hands
This gallery is to show how the decision of the French led to war between two strong nations. The United States the East coast while Spain owned the West. When the Louisiana Territory was split in half Spain did not appeal to the idea of America getting half of what they considered to be their land. This is the Louisiana Territory had switched hands in 1800 from Spain to France with the Treaty of lldefonso. However this resulting in a huge conflict between American and Spanish desires and the two waged war on each other. The land near the board constantly switched hands between the two nations. Florida was the only official obtained land by the United States and is currently the last state to have joined. The loss of Florida was mostly due to lack of efficient communication between the capital of new Spain, Phoenix and troops in Florida.
To the right is a picture of The United States and Spain and the Louisiana Territory. This is occurring in 1805 when France split it in half and sold it to both parties. Spain had not yet moved north to the Oregon Country and there were many sections of US states to still be developed such as Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Maine still had more land to get from Canada and the Virgina were still together. Neither country had an idea of the violence that was about to come as neither had started to setting in the middle land.
To the right is a map from 1950. Much has changed at the line bisecting mid-North America. In the northern section US troops have moved far into Spanish territory while Spanish troops have moved into American territory in the south. Its important to notice that the US still has control of New Orleans as it was their goal from the original sale of the territory. The US has also took the state of Florida in 1837 and it stayed in their possession since.

To the left is the next map from 1828. As one can see both sides have now moved into the territory meeting at the mid line where their land stops. Spain has moved up into the Oregon Country and has also made the first move and started to colonize American land. This would eventually start the violence as America would respond full force even though it s a relatively new country at this point.
